The Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart was founded in 1981, comprising the Gächinger Kantorei, created in 1954, and the Bach Collegium Stuttgart, founded in 1965. The Gächinger Kantorei, considered the soul of the Bach Academy, is one of the most outstanding choirs in the world.
The founder of the Academy, as well as of the choir and of the orchestra, is the conductor Helmuth Rilling, reputed professor and specialist in Bach.
