Choir of Gonville and Caius College Cambridge

Dr. Geoffrey Webber conductor

The United Kingdom prides itself on its centuries-old choral tradition, firmly rooted in its teaching institutions. Founded in 1348, the Caius College is one of the oldest and largest at Cambridge University, a venerated institution with over a thousand students. The College’s musical tradition began at the end of the nineteenth century with a choir of men and boys, founded by the celebrated composer Charles Wood, though it has been mixed since 1979. The choir is currently directed by Geoffrey Webber.

In addition to singing chapel services during term, the group also pursues a full performance and recording agenda out of term, performing at home and at universities, cathedrals and churches in Europe, America and Asia, often alongside such professional orchestras as the Northern Ireland Opera, the Philharmonia Baroque of San Francisco and l’Orchestre National Bordeaux-Aquitaine.

In its recordings, the group has developed a reputation for resurrecting forgotten repertoires, including works overlooked by the English choral tradition. In São Paulo, the Choir of Gonville & Caius College Cambridge will perform a program that exhibits the full wealth of that tradition.

Program: masterpieces of English choral music.
