“Yo-Yo Ma combines
extraordinary charisma, musicianship
and technical prowess in his playing.”
—The New York Times, New York
The rare sonority Yo-Yo Ma extracts from his cello, and his heightened musical sensitivity contributed to bestow upon him an uncommon status in the universe of erudite music: that of a celebrity and of a best-seller in the tough classical music market. Winner of 15 Grammy Awards, Yo-Yo Ma graduated in Harvard, and has been the recipient of the highest possible commendations throughout his career: from the coveted AveryFisher Prize, to the designation as United Nations Messenger of Peace, in 2006. One of his oldest long-term partners is British pianist Kathryn Stott, a recitalist and chamber musician of high international acclaim.
