“The best known and, doubtlessly,
best Swiss chamber orchestra.” ”
—Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Zurich
Founded in 1984, this renowned Swiss ensemble is today one of the most popular European chamber orchestras. Bestowed with the ECHO Klassik “Orchestra of the Year” award in 2008, the group is a frequent presence on the stages of London, Berlin, Vienna and Paris, performing with conductors and soloists such as Philippe Herreweghe and Cecilia Bartoli. The Argentinean cellist Sol Gabetta was graced, in 2007, with the ECHO Klassic “Instrumentalist of the Year” award. According to the German newspaper Frankfurter Rundschau, Gabetta lends to her instrument “a fascinating sonority, marked by exceptional energy and vivacity”.
