CAMERATA SALZBURG

LEONIDAS KAVAKOS - VIOLIN

“Leonidas Kavakos will be as formidable a director of this superb chamber orchestra as he is a soloist”.

Those were the words with which the London newspaper The Sunday Times greeted the union of the Greek violinist with the Camerata Salsburg. Virtuoso of the violin, Kavakos was then taking over the artistic direction of the appraised Austrian ensemble.

Founded in 1952, the Camerata was for 20 years under the direction of the celebrated violinist and Professor Sándor Végh, who passed command on to Sir Roger Norrington. Starred professionals from the musical scene have shaped Camerata Salzburg's unique sound. Its discography has over 50 titles and the group has performed regularly in prestigious music festivals and the best international concert halls.
