Pascal Rophé, conductor
Susan Graham, mezzo-soprano
A great star in today's lyrical scene, an enchanting orchestra, always no less than luminous in approaching the French repertoire, and a conductor with talent and sensitivity: the meeting of the mezzo-soprano Susan Graham with the Liège Philharmonic and the conductor Pascal Rophé is a reunion of artists to whom making music is vocation. Created in 1960, and the only orchestral formation of the French-speaking Belgium, Liège Philharmonic is highly respected in the music scene of its own country as well as in France and in the European countries in which it has performed. Born in France in 1960, Pascal Rophé became the group's musical director and conductor in 2006, after six years of continuous collaboration with the group as an invited conductor (they had already recorded an album with music composed by the French composer and organist Thierry Escaich, which had obtained the Diapason d'Or prix in 2002). Regularly invited to the podium of renowned orchestras, Pascal Rophé has become well-known for a great symphonic repertoire, on the interpretation of French and also twentieth century music, in which he is becoming an admirable specialist.
For their concerts in Cultura Artística's 2008 season, Pascal Rophé and the Liège Philharmonic Orchestra will perform with an invited soloist, spectacular mezzo-soprano Susan Graham, which has delighted audiences and critics for years in virtually all the best opera houses and music halls in the world.
