“Alban Berg Quartett posesses an instinctive sense of group. They breath and attack as an only organism. Their sonority is sweet and round, and their perception of their respective impulses is exact as a radar. They know how to make the noises sound beautiful.”
(Evening Standard, London).
“Refined and masterful... Superb in all aspects.”
(Classic CD).
“One of the most important chamber groups in the world.”
(France Soir, Paris).
“Alban Berg has reached a legendary level on the interpretation of chamber music.”
(Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung).
The critics have never spared superlative praise to Alban Berg Quartett's music since its spectacular premiere in Vienna's Konzerthaus in 1971. For 37 years, the world's most demanding audiences have been enchanted by the art, quality and inspiration with which these supreme musicians approach the classical and romantic repertoire, as well as creations from the biggest musicians of our time.
In 2005, the quartett lost Thomas Kakuska, its violinist for over twenty years. According to his will as well as their colleagues', Isabel Charisius became part of the group, allowing it to play for another three years. The 2008/2009 season is their last. For their goodbye concerts, Alban Berg has demanded to play in Cultura Artística's season, as a recognition of the warmth and enthusiasm with which our audiences have received the quartet and their forever unforgettable music on many occasions.
