Staatskapelle Berlin

Daniel Barenboim - Conductor

”It was exciting to hear an orchestra and conductor so magnificently infused with the spirit of one another”
(Chicago Tribune).

“One of the best orchestras you will find in the world today “
(Musical America).

“There was praise for all. No one has merited them more than Staatskapelle, artistically nourished by Daniel Barenboim.”
(Berliner Morgenpost).

The critics have not saved their praise to Staatskapelle Berlin and Daniel Barenboim, its musical director and conductor since 1992. The history of the orchestra is a testament of more than four centuries of the history of music, as its creation dates back to the year 1570. For over one and a half century, the musicians have performed exclusively to the court. In 1742, when Frederick the Great created the Royal Court Opera – nowadays Staatsoper Berlin - , merging opera and orchestra, the realm of Staatskapelle’s activities was enlarged and a history of success began. The exceptional, mysterious and warm sonority of Staatskapelle Berlin – characteristic which has been extremely praised by experts and critics – has thus developed following a long and rich tradition.

The orchestra is a part of Staatsoper Berlin and takes part in most of its opera and ballet performances. It also performs in annual symphonic concert seasons, showing entrancing interpretations of the biggest creations of the classic, romantic and modern repertoires, as well as music composed for the group and chamber concerts. Under the lead of Daniel Barenboim, one of the great musicians of our time, Staatskapelle Berlin has surpassed itself in a renewed and splendid artistic phase.
